1. Journals

When I first started training I never really kept a fitness or food journal, I didn’t see the point of writing everything down, after all I knew what exercises I had done and I knew what I had eaten, right? Wrong I had no idea what I was doing! It was only by starting the blog I actually started logging anything I did at at all.

I tried several different sites and apps on my phone, mostly they were all a complete waste of time, they were far to time consuming to be of any actual benefit, I mean all the achievements and points were fun for a while, but more annoying than anything else.

So I went back to basics, pen and paper at the gym, it was quick and easy no fuss, and then I would transcribe everything on to this blog. It worked, I started to notice significant improvements in my training and discipline. Once I had written a routine down, I knew I had to do it, that was my goal for the day, no ifs, ands or buts, it had to be done. It then became easy to chart my process on the blog, after all it was for my own benefit, I didn’t need to compare myself to anyone.

So what happened? Well that’s simple I became a little lazy in my record keeping. What happened? Well the discipline began to fade slowly but surely, I couldn’t remember what I had done and thus didn’t know what I had to do. I started skipping and I noticed a decline in my progress, enough to make write this entry and make start keeping not only a fitness journal but a food journal too. It’s easy to fool yourself, so be true and honest with everything you write down.

So here’s my advice; keep a journal of what you do, not just for fitness and food but your everyday life, even if it is something mundane. Some of the greatest people in history kept journals and the only reason we know of their greatness now is because they did.

Choose your medium what ever suits you and your needs. If I have time I’ll write about a few things I tried and what I think worked and what didn’t. Hopefully this makes some sort of sense at 5am.

    Ciao for now

  2. So..

It’s been a while since I have posted. I have stopped training apart from the odd cold… can’t be helped.

I am still training towards my goals. I am in a bit of a lull and need to mix things up a little. Current obsession is with “double unders” whilst skipping, harder than they look I can crack a few out at the moment.

I’ll be posting some things soon.

    Weekly routines

So my weekly program needs to look something like this.

    Monday: Gym

    Tuesday: Karate or Gym

    Wednesday: Gym

    Thursday: Karate or Gym

    Friday: Gym

    Saturday: Karate or Gym

    Sunday: Rest

I need to add in a day of Bouldering, a day of Yoga and a day of sprints. I need to maintain my Karate skills. I need to include a session of interval sprinting, a day of the big 3 (Barbell Deadlift, Bench Press and Squats). It’s all getting complicated. Help.
